I am a mixed media artist based in Hawera, South Taranaki, New Zealand.
My artworks are composed of assemblages and collages of found objects (mostly from local op shops) that I carefully select and arrange over weeks or months. The objects I choose have to possess a certain quality, a vitality, a personality that makes them suitable for my work; it is similar to a chef picking the best ingredients for a dish; only the finest ones will do. It’s what defines the work. Another crucial element of my process is music. It’s the companion of the creative act; it’s also a motif that has emerged in my recent works, in the titles and objects used. I have been inspired by the idea of the Ballad, which is a type of poem or song that tells a short story. My works are visual poems/songs, ballads. |
